The Aristocrat Baleno is a perfect choice for a piece of full-size checked luggage. Standing over 27 inches tall, it's one of the most well-proportioned bags in our lineup. Its main compartment offers some of the most generous storage capacity among the bags we've reviewed.
Capacity
When it comes to capacity, the Aristocrat Baleno makes a grand entrance with its impressive 67-liter main compartment, offering extensive packing space and one of the most well-thought-out packing systems in the luggage industry. The interior provides ample storage, but the bag's features don't stop there.
Two large external pockets add to its functionality, perfect for stowing a few extra layers, a magazine, or even your wallet. However, these pockets run the full length of the suitcase, making them less ideal for keeping smaller items organized or easily accessible.
Despite its generous volume, the bag weighs just 7.7 pounds, making it one of the lightest options for its size on our list. Our favorite feature is the high-quality interior build and the efficient compression straps.
The Aristocrat Baleno Softside Luggage Bag comes in various sizes: 58 cm (small), 69 cm (medium), and 79 cm (large). Our review applies consistently across all sizes; the only difference among them is the capacity.
Ease of Transport
Despite its size, the Aristocrat Baleno excels in maneuverability, earning high marks in this area. Our testers observed that the bag rolled effortlessly, navigated stairs and curbs without difficulty, and stayed balanced when lifted using its grab handles.
While most luggage wheels are designed for smooth airport floors and occasional concrete or metal escalators, we pushed the Aristocrat Baleno to its limits on dirt, gravel, and grass.
During these off-road tests, the wheels performed admirably, offering enough clearance to handle almost any terrain.
Although it didn’t conquer the outdoors like a high-end SUV when fully loaded, we were still impressed. That said, we believe slightly taller wheels would enhance its performance.
When fully packed, the suitcase can feel bulky, but it’s equipped with two strong grab handles built to withstand repeated lifting, tugging, and yanking.
We often found it easier to lift and carry the bag by its top handle rather than spinning it onto its side. While the handles are sturdy and well-balanced, our only criticism is their size—they’re a bit small and can be uncomfortable to grip for extended periods.
Construction Quality
The Aristocrat Baleno earned high marks for its construction, thanks to its above-average fabrics, plastics, zippers, handles, and buckles.
This bag is built for heavy travel and is designed to last. While we’d love to describe every bag we test as indestructible, the reality is that checked luggage often faces rough handling, so absolute durability isn’t always possible.
However, the Aristocrat Baleno comes close, demonstrating impressive toughness. Its resilient polyester exterior held up well during our tumble and drop tests, showing only minor scuffs and scratches.
When exposed to heavy rain, the bag performed admirably—the exterior pockets were slightly damp inside, but the main compartment remained essentially dry.
The Aristocrat Baleno Softside Luggage Bag lacks a modern TSA lock feature and instead uses a number lock pattern similar to the Safari Prisma.
While this might seem like a disadvantage upon closer inspection, it doesn't significantly impact functionality in practical terms.
In our testing, we encountered no major issues with the lock system on the Aristocrat Baleno. Overall, we consider it to be perfectly adequate.
Ergonomics
The Aristocrat Baleno might not be the trendiest bag around, but it more than compensates with its outstanding functionality.
This bag offers some of the best packing features available, rivaling luxury suitcases that cost hundreds more.
We rated the Aristocrat Baleno highly for several reasons: its impressive storage capacity, strategically placed pockets and compartments, and high-quality auxiliary features like zippers, wheels, and a sturdy trolley handle.
Its standout feature, however, is the good packing system, which can easily accommodate a wide range of clothing and accessories.
Should You Buy the Aristocrat Baleno Softside 27-inch?
We're impressed by the value the Aristocrat Baleno offers at its price point. While it's not the least expensive option out there, it remains affordable compared to premium suitcases we've tested and is a significant step up from lower-end alternatives.
This results in a more durable and reliable carry-on, packed with organizational features that make travel easier. The value is clear: you get a solid, dependable bag without overspending.
We believe it’s an excellent choice for family vacations, school trips, or business travel where a sleek, polished appearance isn’t a priority.
What Other Bags To Consider?
If you're looking for a softshell bag that provides ample space without straining your budget, we recommend the Safari Prisma.
It's quite similar to the Aristocrat Baleno but offers even more storage capacity. In fact, the Safari Prisma is our top choice among softshell travel trolley bags so far.
On the other hand, if you prefer a hardshell bag with a more stylish and premium appearance, we suggest considering The MOKOBARA or the Uppercase Bullet Hardshell Trolley Bag.
