Affordability is the defining trait of the American Tourister Ivy 26" Hardside Spinner. Balancing size, weight, and organizational features, it's undeniably a practical choice for those on a tight budget with substantial packing needs.  However, durability is a concern.

While it withstood our rigorous tests reasonably well, its material composition falls short compared to sturdier hardshell options. Capacity

According to our measurements, the American Tourister Ivy 26" Hardside Spinner's main compartment boasts a generous 68 liters of packing capacity, with the added benefit of an expandable zipper option.

This feature transforms the already spacious clam-shaped suitcase into an even more substantial option, ideal for extended trips or sizable loads. Its roomy interior easily accommodates a plethora of clothing and gear, including bulkier items, without a hitch.

Capacity Ratings

Inside, one half of the clamshell is neatly organized with a full-sized zip panel sporting mesh pockets for efficient interior organization, while a small hanging zippered accessory pocket adds further convenience.

Although the restraint straps on the opposite half might not offer much in terms of compression, they effectively keep items secure during transit, preventing any unexpected spills or disruptions.

Weight (Measured)

Moreover, for those prone to indulgent shopping sprees, the expandable fold of fabric around the suitcase's middle provides an additional 15% more packing space with just a simple unzip, ensuring you're always prepared for those extra finds.

The wheels are excellently smooth.

Ease of Transport

The maneuverability of this case pleasantly surprised us, effortlessly gliding over hard surfaces with its four 360-degree spinners

Constructed with a rubberized outer layer enveloping two wheels connected on a single axis, the Hardside Spinner smoothly accompanies you through airport terminals or navigates hotel lobbies.

Ease of Transport Rating

However, under full load and in motion, it does tend to veer away from the body at approximately 45 degrees, a quirk possibly attributed to internal weight redistribution once in motion—a phenomenon observed in several hard-cased spinners we tested.

While the spinner handles typical surfaces without trouble, navigating technical terrains like cobblestones or light gravel poses a slight challenge, albeit manageable for regular use.

However, when confronted with more rugged pathways featuring rocks, grass, or mud, the suitcase struggles to maintain its smooth movement.

The telescoping pull handle functions adequately with its single-button operation, serving well for everyday use.

Additionally, the inclusion of two well-positioned haul handles at the top and side of the bag offers convenient grab-and-grip options for loading into car trunks or boarding shuttle buses at the airport.

During our testing, we noticed a slight tendency for the spinner wheels to drift, requiring occasional course corrections, particularly evident during simple rolling tests. While not a significant issue, it's noticeable enough to warrant mention.

We love the build quality. It is made up of Polypropylene.

Construction Quality

While this budget-friendly case excels in transportation ease, its construction quality leaves much to be desired upon closer inspection.

Although initial testing didn't reveal any significant failures, a combination of visual examination and negative customer feedback prompts concerns about its long-term durability. While critical components appear intact at first glance, they lack the standout quality one might hope for.

Construction Quality Rating

The unpretentious polypropylene outer shell fared well in drop and stairwell tests, exhibiting minimal scratching and scuffing.

Notably, it proved impervious to water, with no considerable pooling inside the main compartment during water tests.

However, any potential lack of water resistance likely stems from the zipper and zipper tape rather than the shell itself.

Testing suggests that this bag may offer more longevity than its price suggests, yet it also reveals vulnerabilities upon closer inspection.

The four wheels perform admirably on flat urban terrain, thanks to their double "tire" construction and rubberized outer surfaces, despite some minor jiggling in their housings.

While the aluminum pull handle functions adequately, it does exhibit some jiggling within its housing, consistent with the expectations of a budget suitcase. Reports of failures from other users raise concerns about its long-term reliability.

Similarly, the rubberized loading handles, though comfortable and well-placed, appear fragile and may struggle to bear the weight of a fully packed bag.

The plastic fittings securing them to the case give the impression of being flimsy and prone to breakage.

Moreover, while the zippers operate smoothly, doubts linger regarding their durability over time. Overall, while our testing period didn't reveal any issues, caution is warranted based on these observations.

Ergonomics

When you think of a roller suitcase, this one fits the bill: straightforward, standard, and perhaps a tad less flashy than some of its boxy spinner counterparts.

While classic colors like black and navy are timeless, this suitcase may not endure through all your globetrotting adventures.

Ergonomics

So, why not opt for something bold like bright red or sea green? Not only will you turn heads as you glide through the airport, but you'll also spot your bag effortlessly on the carousel upon arrival.

Should You Buy the American Tourister Ivy 26" Hardside Spinner?

While doubts linger about its durability stemming from the utilization of average materials and craftsmanship, this affordable suitcase boasts ample space to accommodate a comprehensive all-season wardrobe for long-distance relocation or upcoming urban escapades.

If you don't intend to push its limits or subject it to rigorous handling, this budget-friendly yet unexpectedly sturdy suitcase should suffice for several journeys without major issues.
